Therapy101 / Approaches
About this site
Scope
This site is an educational directory of psychotherapy and counselling approaches. It describes what each approach is, how it is commonly offered, how it relates to others and where its limits lie. It is part of the wider Therapy101 family.
The fourteen entries are a selection, not a complete list. Where UK and US guidance differ, the entry says which country a statement refers to.
What this site does not do
It does not diagnose, recommend a treatment, match people with therapists or offer crisis support. Descriptions are general and may not fit a particular person or practitioner. It makes no claims that one approach works better than another.
If you are in distress, contact a health professional or your local emergency or crisis service.
Review status
This is an unpublished draft. The entries have been written and checked against the listed sources, but have not yet been reviewed by a qualified subject specialist. Each page says so in its review note.
How sources are checked
A source is listed only after the page has been opened and its title and content matched to the citation. Each source says what it supports, and the date it was checked. Journal articles are checked through their DOI.
Some sources could not be opened and checked. These are marked “Source to be added”, with a note of what the source needs to support. Preferred sources are professional bodies such as the BACP, NHS and NICE guidance, the American Psychological Association, and primary publications. The sources page lists all of them.
